Is T3 Chat free? The short answer
T3 Chat is the multi-model AI chat app built by Theo Browne (t3.gg). One chat window gives you models from several providers, and its homepage names OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and DeepSeek. You can start for free, and you pay only if you want more usage.
The official wording comes from the T3 Chat Terms of Service (last updated November 15, 2025): the service is "provided to you without charge up to certain usage limits, and usage in excess of these limits may require purchase." The terms point to the settings page for pricing, and that page needs a sign-in, so the plan prices below come from T3's own public posts and team replies rather than a public pricing page.

There is no $20 middle tier. Users have asked for one on the feedback board, and the team replied that it is "judging the interest", but that data so far suggests most people who would pick it really need the $50 plan.
T3 Chat has run promo codes before. In June 2025 the official @t3dotchat account offered the first month of Pro for $1 with a checkout code. Treat any code you find as possibly expired.
How T3 Chat usage limits work
T3 Chat stopped counting messages in February 2026. Theo announced that the old standard and premium credits were replaced by a usage bar that resets every 4 hours. The FAQ now explains the meter like this:
- There are two buckets, Base and Overage. Every message spends from Base first, then Overage.
- Base refills every 4 hours. Overage refills on your monthly renewal date.
- If both are empty, you wait for a refill.
- When you send a message, T3 Chat reserves an expected cost, then settles the real cost when the reply finishes. That is why the meter can jump up and then settle back down.
The FAQ's example uses 20 Base points and 200 Overage points, but says these are illustrative "points", not your real allowance. Send 50 points of messages in one 4-hour window and the first 20 come from Base and the other 30 from Overage. After the reset, Base is full again but Overage stays at 170 until renewal.
What makes the meter drain faster
The FAQ lists four things that raise the cost of a message:

The team describes its limits as "tied pretty closely to the actual cost of inference" and says it passes through the API cost. Starting a fresh chat for a new topic, leaving search off when you do not need it, and picking a cheaper model for simple questions all stretch your allowance.
What changed from the old 1,500 message plan

So older reviews quoting "1,500 messages a month" describe the previous system, not how T3 Chat works today.
Which models does T3 Chat have?
T3 Chat's homepage describes it as "one fast AI chat app for top models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, and more", and its page title mentions GPT-5, Claude and Gemini. On the logged-out homepage we checked, the default model was Kimi K2 (0905), and the chat box offered Instant, Search and Attach buttons.
T3 Chat does not publish a fixed list of which models the free tier can use, and the lineup changes often as new models launch, so we are not listing one here. Open the model picker after signing in to see what your plan includes.
Privacy: does T3 Chat train on your data?
No. The FAQ says T3 Chat does not train its own models and has opted out of training with its providers where possible:
- OpenAI and Anthropic: training is off by default, and T3 has not opted in.
- Google: training is disabled on paid models.
- OpenRouter: T3 has disabled routing to providers that train on user inputs.
If a new model can only be used with training on, T3 Chat says it labels it. If you bring your own API key, the FAQ says you are responsible for your own training settings with that provider.

Canceling and refunds
The Terms of Service say there are no refunds when you cancel. You must also be at least 13 to use T3 Chat, and the terms forbid using the service in ways meant to get around its usage limits.
